Rechargeable? Has anyone successfully recharged their mini fridge?

I've called around a few places and all the fridge repair guys say that my VV-3 isn't worth recharging and thats IF it can be done. Most of them say the lines on the fridges are usually too small and that a recharge fitting will need to be welded on the fridge before a recharge can even be attempted. It's around $75 to weld the fitting on then possibly another $100 for the recharge and there is no guarantee it will work. Anyone had better luck than this? If so what was your experience and what did it cost?
